4 SHOWS TO SEE IN SoHo THIS WEEK

With the year coming to an end art galleries in NYC are wrapping up their final shows to take a break for the holidays. It’s exciting to see what the next shows for the new year will be, but meanwhile there are still various excellent and worthwhile shows to visit if you are in the SoHo area this week!

Liang Fu: Corps Célestes

At first glance it’s almost abstract, a ghostly figure but the closer and longer you look the more details you can identify. Eyes, eyebrows, a nose, and lips all depicted as dreamy fluid portraits. In Liang Fu’s artworks the subjects depicted are in transition, there is movement in the portraits, soft blurred streaks of white on top of the dreamiest blues and purples.

Dylan Vandenhoeck: Inside Out, Outside In

A different perspective on life. Fisheye-lenses capturing everything around you. These works reminded me of my dreams, not the actual imagery but the position of the eyes, I’m standing in front of my dream, consciously playing a part in it. Perhaps a pano in 360 or I’m peaking from an 80th floor ledge. Absolute madness, what a trip.

Joel Dean: The Dreamtime Particle Pretend

A beautiful color pallet combining hues from all tones. Seemingly dark but with the most theatrical characters and quintessential motifs like hearts. Musical instruments are another highlight of Deans work. I loved every single detail on these pieces, something new always pops up to say hello. It’s a piece that stays fresh and gripping.

Antonio Obá: Outras águas / Other waters

“Etheral landscapes intertwining a panorama of references across the histories of Brazilian literature, music, and painting, exploring shared histories and personal resonances that at once engage and reconstruct the worlds embedded within.”
